So as the sunshine seems to be making an appearance, at the most, a few hours here and there; the lack of summer may be beginning to get the best of you.
Even I, a true positive believer that we do have reasonable summers here in old Blighty, am beginning to feel a little lack lustre with this year’s offering of sunshine and warmth. Most days seem to feel like a decent average spring day as opposed to what should be plentiful heat as we are now well into July. Yes, some of you may need reminding of that – that it is in fact July and not perhaps March or April as you may awake each morning to believe, as you step out into the big wide world, heading to work under grey skies and feeble warm air.
So perhaps a weekend away of fun and exploring should be put on the agenda to take your mind of the limp weather and distract you with interesting sites, beautiful coastal walks or shopping on alternative pretty small town high streets?
With that in mind I found my favourite four weekend bags which are begging to be filled with all your gear for a couple of nights and off you go!
I love the ‘Cora‘ embroidered bag from Star Mela, a pricey option but currently an absolutely steal at half price in their sale. Star Mela is a gorgeous brand full of bags, totes, clutches AND clothing – embracing incredible embroidery, beading + fabrics. Their bags can be used everyday, for work, leisure, beach… but are perfect for a wedding too with their beautiful designs and styles. They are quite an investment but will lift so many outfits and have a timeless look. Was £102 Now £51
The Pantone Universe holdalls are amazing but currently quite hard to track down. I’ve heard of them spotted in the Truman Brewery, East London but have sought them out at House Of Fraser – but be quick there’s only a couple left of some colours! £55
And perfectly summing up the weekend desire, the ‘Forestbound Escape’ bag from SouthwoodStores is at the top of my wish list. It comes in black, beige or cream colour. It’s unfortunately out of stock right now, but we are keeping our beady eye on when they come back into stock. Follow their feed at Instagram and no doubt we’ll hear as soon as they do! In the mean time head to SouthwoodStores and browse the huge range of tempting homewares, accessories, clothing and more! £75
And then it’s where to go? Fill your wanderlust boots on UK soil and try my favourite four picks for weekend travel:
1• London is all a mix of shiny and new with historic and glorious, and it’s full to the brim of everything to explore from uber hip exhibitions and shows, oh-so-touristy (but fun) sights to see, music and festivals to fill you dancing needs, shopping streets bursting at the seams with highstreet, designer and new independent fashion, eateries of every food desire and I could go on (can you guess I love London?) So explore a weekends worth of the big smoke and stay at the swoon worthy Town Hall Hotel – it’s a pricey treat but the interior perfection rooms, breakfasts + location make it all worth while.
2• Southern beauty is in abundance when either glamping in Dorset at the Highlands End Holiday park where you can stay in the cool accommodation pods by the sea and visit local sights including Charmouth and Lyme Regis; or a little more solid luxury at the gorgeous The Pig Hotel, Studland Bay, where you can rest in luxurious but homely comfort, dine on food that comes highly recommended with great reviews and there’s even spa treatments to take advantage of; all with places like the beautiful Dorset coast with its natural wildlife to enjoy on your doorstep.
3• It’s just a perfect moment to open the back door on to your private terrace (with hot tub!) and take in the serene view of endless silent forest – and that’s what you get staying in a super luxury Forest Holidays wood cabin. With the option of all food delivered to your door, great interior, miles of woodland to walk or cycle and explore these forest getaways can be as active or relaxing as you choose it to be. Head there in Spring and get to enjoy the beauty of the bluebell woods. It’s both dog friendly with the forest shop catering for our furry friends with treats, food and toys and of course amazing dog walks; and child friendly with a playground, forest adventure trails and fun workshops with the forest rangers too!
4• It’s referred to as London by the sea and is popular getaway for all ages. Brighton is a winner for a weekend away, ticking all the boxes for beautiful beaches, cool independent and boutique shopping, historical and interesting sites, music, culture and art, many many gorgeous parks and so many great bars and restaurants you’ll be well fed and watered too. It’s also one of the most dog friendly places I’ve visited with even posh lovely restaurants and pubs allowing you to dine with your furry kid, great sections of dog friendly beaches and so many hotels happy to offer accommodation – I love The Oriental with their welcoming nature, gorgeous rooms and details like treat bowls of chocolate, biscuits and sweets – plus they do awesome breakfasts with dairy and gluten free options!
Make more of your weekends and start exploring England
I’d love to know more recommendations for good places to spend a weekend (especially if they’re dog friendly!) so look forward to hearing from you!
