Clean raw balls, in the most innocent way…

I think I’m obsessed. With balls. 

Ok here me out. Having always been a fan of healthy stuff, I’ve recently been trying even harder to find great recipes for cleaner, healthier, vegan ways to get a sweet fix, a protein boost or an energy kick. I aim to always have something in the fridge, homemade, that is always on hand when needed to ensure I avoid having chocolate, shop bought products or unhealthy options. 

So the mission is to find the perfect balls (or bars) and I wade through endless recipes, attempt + sample, then weadle out the good, bad and extra yummy ones and pop them here! 

First up, these FRUIT + WALNUT balls: 

125g RAISINS (or you could use cranberries) 


125g WALNUTS (or you could experiment with other nuts, maybe almond, cashews or hazelnuts)

1-2 tsp of spirulina powder (a wondrous nutrient packed powder)

Spirulina is a natural “algae” (cyanbacteria) powder that is incredibly high in protein and a good source of antioxidants, B-vitamins and other nutrients. When harvested correctly from non-contaminated ponds and bodies of water, it is one of the most potent nutrient sources available 

It is largely made up of protein and essential amino acids, and is typically recommended to vegetarians due to its high natural iron content.

…and to coat the balls you can use SHELLED HEMP SEEDS, CACAO POWDER, UNSWEETENED DESICCATED COCONUT or CRUSHED PISTACHIO NUTS. These could be done in mixes or individually.

MIX all the first ingredients with food processor or blender, then divide and roll into small balls (two-bite sized) and coat in any of the above coating options. 

Lay on a tray and refrigerate til cool and solid. I then usually store in tupperware in the fridge for a week or so. They’ll last for a while but they are so nice they probably won’t hang around for long! 

Second up is Deliciously Ella’s FESTIVE FIZZY BALLS which can be made non fizzy if you don’t have BAOBAB powder (see recipe). Anyone else have numerous ingredients in the cupboard that they can’t pronounce?!

500g DATES 




2 tbsp ALMOND BUTTER (but I reckon peanut would work!) 

5 tbsp BAOBAB POWDER (the first time I made I hadn’t yet got that in my cupboard so used a mix of CACAO + COCONUT instead and was still yummy!) 

MIX everything together, except the baobab, in a blender or food processor. Roll into balls and coat in baobab (or other suggestions) pop onto a tray and refrigerate! Again once firm they can be stored in the fridge in Tupperware. 

What I love about so many recipes is they are flexible and accommodating to varying ingredients. Once you start to know what flavours work and what can act as a binder then you can experiment.

It’s easy to add in extra natural supplements like chia, flax, maca or other superfood powders to boost the nutrients, vitamins and benefits of your balls!
